•This is a text from Amodini Kostaki from 'Earth Calling' that I translated from Greek:

  ''Why does Greek society raise its children teaching them never to ask, never politely be themselves,ask for what they want or need exactly as they are and instead teaches them to be depressed and psychologically repressed adults....neurotic,hysteric,angry, indignant, incapable of negotiating anything in a civilised manner, having to scream and rave like they are possessed even for the simplest,everyday stuff?

Personally I don't want to be a slave to the fear of how other other people are going to react or interpret things.
I love people and I love myself,I love chatting and chit-chatting,I love communicating and so I try to manifest everything that I love doing. Why not risk and dare to be upfront and share what I feel, what I think,who I am or what I want?

What is there for me to lose?Either people will get me and we'll get to share what we have in common,or they won't get me and we'll go on living on our separate planets ,which is the norm anyway,since nobody bothers to really communicate,share or exchange anything.
Nothing but gain is there for both me and other people when I am courageous enough to be real ,when I address other people and ask for things in this way ,or at least this is my experience.

 

I am asking wIth a smile,I am asking  politely,I am asking from someone that I am willing to give something back in return ,if it is within my power to do so, not because I have to, but because I want to.

If I am asking with that frame of mind,nobody will ever refuse me anything...but even if they did,even if my request form is thrown away to the rubbish bin, someone is bound to be paying heed and come to my aid.Even if nobody comes to my aid,I'll find within myself the supply of stength,those last drops of gas left that will get me a little further,where my chances of finding the next gas station or hitch-hiking spot are greater.''

Asking politely...boy ,is that a problem with so many people,especially in my country! It's like the 'entitlement mentality' has become so pervasive,that everybody feels they are entitled to everything. They are entitled to everything they are entitled to,and then they are enritled to everything they are not entitled to and then some.And the more they feel they are NOT entitled to something,the more ferociously and relentlessly they'll go for it,because,hey,life is supposed to owe us everything and so we are entitled to everything,right?

Well,wrong,my friend. Life owes you and me nothing,we are not entitled to anything and everything we have or are hoping to have,we must first earn WITH GRATITUDE. No gratitude? Nothing earned.Even if it is earned or grabbed through the 'entitlement mentality',it is going to be lost sooner or later. Because it's the law of reciprocation here.You give, you get.You are not entitled to anything. Period.

As a business owner in Greece,I get to experience the entitlement mentality all the time. The more 'freebies' I give to my students, like free coffee or free additional lessons,the more they feel they are entitled to them and take it as a personal insult when said freebies are temporarily withdrawn from them. I could give you a thousant examples of this mentality at work,but I just don't feel like it today,it is enough that I am dealing with it on my real life on a daily basis and so I can't bring myself to waste more time writing about it.

But here's the secret I've been telling you about: those students that are full of this entitlement bullshit,rarely,if ever,get a certificate! Even if everybody else in their class succeeds in the final exams,(organised by international institutes),even though they have every gift or talent or good intention in the world and all the help they can get from me and the other teachers,they still fail. Even though I give them a full 'guarantee',meaning that all students that fail a test can attent the full course again in my school for free,they still fail,for a second or even a third time. Because of the entitlement mentality and their lack of gratitude.And their only hope of getting the certificate they want is not to study or try more,but to get over their entitlement mentality.Which is extremely difficult,because the shackles of ingratitude are strong and powerful ....

Don't make the same mistake they do. Earn everything you desire and need with gratitude.Life or other people owe you nothing.Noone owes you anything.No friend,lover,relative,associate,mentor,government,service or institution owes you anything.And certainly no God,universe or higher being owes you anything,either. You get to earn everything through gratitude and love.

 That's the way our universe works.

If you don't like the way things work around here,do us a favour,pick up another reality and try your luck there.

•Γιατί η Ελληνική κοινωνία ...μεγαλώνει τα παιδιά της μαθαίνοντας τους να μην ζητάνε, να μην εκφράζουν ευγενικα τον εαυτο τους, τα θέλω τους, τις ανάγκες τους οπως ακριβώς είναι και καταλήγουν να γίνουν ενήλικες καταπιεσμένοι, ψυχαναγκαστικοί, ......σπαστικοί, υστερικοί, θυμωμένοι, εξοργισμένοι, ανίκανοι να συνδιαλλαγούν συζητώντας και χρειάζεται να ουρλιάζουν σαν δαιμονισμένοι σε παραλήρημα για απλά ,καθημερινά πράγματα; Προσωπικά δεν θέλω να είμαι δούλος του φόβου του πως θα το παρει ο άλλος !

Αγαπώ τους ανθρώπους και αγαπώ τον εαυτό μου, μ' αρέσει η κουβέντα και η ...κουβεντούλα, αγαπώ την επικοινωνία, και θέλω να έχω όλες τις ευκαιρίες να υλοποιώ όσα μ' ευχαριστούν.
Γιατί λοιπόν να μη ρισκάρω, να μη τολμήσω να πω στον άλλο στα ίσια τί σκέφτομαι, τί νιώθω, πως είμαι και τί θέλω;

Τί έχω να χάσω; ή θα με καταλάβει και θα τα βρούμε, θα μοιραστούμε κάτι κοινό που έχουμε ή θα παραμείνει ο καθένας μας στον πλανήτη του, κάτι που έτσι ή αλλιώς συμβαίνει, όταν δεν επικοινωνούμε, δεν μοιραζόμαστε, δεν ανταλλάσσουμε τίποτα !

Μόνο κέρδος υπάρχει καί για τους δυό μας με την τόλμη να είμαι αληθινή, αυθεντική όταν απευθύνομαι στους άλλους και ζητάω , αυτή είναι η δική μου εμπειρία !Το ίδιο ισχύει και για όσους ζητάνε απ' το Θεό που πιστεύουν ή από το Σύμπαν, την Υπαρξη , διάφορα και ισχυρίζονται πως δεν τους ακούει ποτέ !

Μα ποιος θα σ' ακούσει αν ζητάς από "ανώτερες δυνάμεις" το ο,τιδήποτε με φόβο, δυσπιστία, επιφύλαξη, χειρόφρενα στη ψυχή; Κανείς ! Όταν ζητάω κάτι απ' οπουδήποτε το ζητάω μέσα από την καρδιά μου, είναι αληθινή ανάγκη ή επιθυμία, το ζητάω με τη χαρά της προσμονής του μικρού παιδιού που πιστεύει στον Αγιο Βασίλη και περιμένει το δωράκι του !

Το ζητάω με χαμόγελο, το ζητάω ευγενικά , το ζητάω από κάποιον που είμαι πρόθυμη να του προσφέρω κι εγώ ένα δώρο, αν τυχόν μπορώ, όχι από υποχρέωση αλλά επειδή ετσι μου αρέσει !

Αν ζητάω έτσι τότε πολύ λίγοι ,άνθρωποι και ανώτερες δυνάμεις, θα μου αρνηθούν το παραμικρό..
Αλλά ακόμη κι αν μου πουν "όχι" και ρίξουν στο καλάθι με τα άχρηστα το αίτημα μου, κάποιος άλλος που...κρυφακούει θα έρθει κοντά μου ! Κι άν κανείς δεν με πλησιάσει θα βρώ μέσα μου το απόθεμα δύναμης , εκείνη τη τελευταία σταγόνα βενζίνης στο πάτο που θα με πάει λίγο παρακάτω,εκεί που οι πιθανότητες να βρώ ...ωτοστοπ και ...βενζινάδικο είναι μεγαλύτερες !..
