Only once?

Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more.

You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wo
nderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself.

Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are.

The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face.

In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do.

Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you.

You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile.Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.

We are only given today....

After my father's death, some 25 years ago,I realised that we are not necessarily given tomorrow to spend with those we love. So I swore that from that day on not a day would go by without my telling someone important in my life how much they mean to me....

''Always say what you feel and do what you think ...
If I knew today was the last time I see you asleep,I'd hug you tightly and pray to the Lord to be the guardian of your soul.
If I knew that this was the last time I see you walk out of the door, I'd give you a hug and a a kiss and I 'd call you back to give you some more.
If I knew that this was the last time I hear your voice,I'd record every one of your words to hear them again and again .
If I knew that this is the last time you told me ''I love you'' ,I would not assume, foolishly, that you know that I love you too.
There is always a tomorrow and life gives us another opportunity to do things right, but if I'm wrong and today is all we have left, I would like to tell you how much I love you so that you'll never forget.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone, young or old.
Today may be the last time you see those you love.
So do not wait, do it today because tomorrow might never come. There will surely come a day you'll regret you did not take time for a smile, a hug, a kiss and you were too busy to grant someone a last wish.
Keep those you love near you, let them hear you say how much you need and love them! Treat them well, take time to say "sorry", "forgive me", "please" "thank you" and all the words of love you know.''.

Universal or Personal?

Some of my posts are inspired by comments on Facebook. This one I found particularly thought provoking: When something you have hoped for comes into your life and you have expressed your hope to both 'the Universe' (true to the principles of the Law of Attraction) and also in prayers to God, who do you believe actually blessed you with what you received?

God has two aspects: the universal one,the one that Buddhists and new age people talk about and a very personal and real one, manifesting as theTrinity,Father Christ. and the Holy Spirit...The greatest mistake of religion and spirituality in general is making us believe that one aspect is incompatible with the other...both sides, the one supporting his universal aspect and traditional Christianity, fight ferociously to negate each other.

But truth,as always, lies somewhere in the middle! The universal aspect of God is the one that helps us become enlightened and achieve material success and spiritual enlightenment...this,according to some narrow-minded Christians,is bad and unholy and prevents us from redemption...but is it so? clearly,if God wants us to be  like his image and liking and become Gods like him, He would also like us to take on this universal aspect of him, right?

Now,on to God's personal aspect. Non-Christians deny that, because His universal aspect is easier to accept, whereas His personal side cannot be proved or rationalised by some very analytical minds. But God did take on a personal aspect incarnating as Christ in both historical time and in our time, still existing as a person, still maintaining a personal relationship with those that wish to let Him do so. Why? Because we have a clearly personal aspect as human beings ourselves and He,being crazy in love with each one of us,since the beginning of time, wanted to relate to this personal side of us as well! It is through this personal side of Him that we can easier achieve the ultimate communion to Him and become Gods one day. I am not saying this communion with God is not possible through His universal side, its just more difficult...That's why we have an overwhelming desire to fall in love and become one with another human being in the physical, because this is the test drive, the archetype,so to speak,of becoming one with Him,totally one,but still retaining our precious individuality.

BOTH THE PERSONAL AND THE UNIVERSAL ADSPECTS ARE NEEDED. ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER LEAVES US UNSATISFIED AND STILL SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS.

God Wants You to....

This is a picture of my second son wearing a police officer's helmet that was kindly given to him for the specific reason of being photographed in it

''Set yourself free tonight! It’s not your job to change anyone else. Sometimes we actually use our focus on fixing others as an excuse not to focus on our own growth. This doesn’t work, it’s annoying, and nobody gets anything out of it. Why do it? Nobody wants to admit they are wrong, you included!''

Here's an interesting ( and funny) incident that actually happened at my school this morning that illustrates the above mentioned quote:

A nice little old lady walks in, holding some new year calendars to sell. Before I have any chance to go talk to her, Christopher ( one of the teachers) walks up to her. I know what happens in such cases,I have a moment of deja-vou, but this time I am not too worried, because what are the chances of the nice old lady speaking any English? Zero. So I rest assured that no interaction is going to happen. To my dismay, though, this nice little old lady in her seventies speaks fluent English! But now it's too late for me to save it. It's already happening. And this is the conversation that I witnessed, word-for-word:

Christopher: - How may I help you ma'am?

Nice little old lady: -Hello,we're selling those callendars to help raise money for the poor people in Africa. Perhaps you can help too?

Christopher:- I don't see how calendars can help poor people in Africa, ma'am.

Nice little old lady: - Not the calendars,my boy. The money we are raising will help those poor people in Africa.

Christopher:-  And what makes you think this money is actually going to end up helping the poor in Africa,ma'am?

Nice little old lady: ( smiling condescendingly)- Because the church is in charge of it,my son.

Christopher:- But still, what makes you think the church is actually going to give that money to the poor people in  Africa?

Nice little old lady: ( getting a little flustered): Because this is what the church does; it helps people in need!

Christopher:- So you are sayin' ,ma'am, that the church would do anything within its power to help people in need?

Nice little old lady: - Of course, that's exactly what I am saying!

Christopher:- Then how come the church is not selling one of those big church buildings it owns, along with everything in it, to raise a nice amount of money for people in need,in Africa or elsewhere? I am sure that would raise more funds than have its representatives going door-to-door,asking other people who are for the most part poor themselves to contribute!

Nice little old lady: (now getting visibly angry): - And where do you suppose people who would like to praise the Lord or learn about Him would go to?

Christopher:- But you see,ma'am,true Christians have no need for such church buildings. Because wasn't He the one that said to His followers ''If there are two or three of you gathered in My name,I am there amongst you? Don't you think that He'd be infinitely more pleased if His people would sacrifice the comfort of having a building for their gatherings to provide comfort and nourishment for those in need?

Nice little old lady ( getting angrier and angrier): Obviously you are not a true Christian, judging by the way you speak!

Christopher:- No ma'am,I am not,I am an atheist.

Nice little old lady: ( getting all worked up now) Oh,so you are an atheist, aren't you? Who do you think created all this beauty, mountains and rivers, around us,If not God,then?

Christopher:- I have no idea,ma'am.

Nice little old lady:- You should know! Don't you think you are old enough to have found answers to such questions for yourself?

Christopher:- No ma'am,I don't. You see, whether I knew the answer to your question or not would't make the least of difference to how I conduct my life or how I behave towards other people. What about you,ma'am? Does your idea about whether God created all this or not,or whether He really exists or not, make you behave towards others in a certain way? Because if this is the case, you probably do not love God,you just FEAR him. Is that so,ma'am?Am I right?

Nice little old lady: - I won't stand here anymore talking to a heathen like you! May God have mercy on your soul! (storming out of the school, muttering things to herself).

Me:- Now, Christopher, you did it again! You upset this nice little old lady for nothing!

Christopher:- She didn't seem like a nice little old little lady when she left... She looked more like a very pissed off little lady to me! And I hope she gets to reflect a little upon our discussion, though I very much doubt it....

Nobody wants to change guys.. Everybody believes they know 'the way' to God and enlightenment. But in reality we are all stumbling and searching...those that are convinced they know best are usually the more confused ones...so rest well tonight, relax and be assured that neither God nor anyone else out there wants you to save anybody from themselves...this is God's job and He can do a much better job than you,you know!Because, unlike you and me and our intellectual rantings,He can speak straight to hearts!

Liberation is only possible when things fall apart

I loved this post. It resonated so deeply with me that a designed a whole post of mine around it. It is from this website.Go have a look,it's worth it.

.

Consider what would happen if security were not the point of our existence. That we find freedom, aliveness, and power not from what contains, locates, or protects us, but from what dissolves, reveals and expands us.
~Eve Ensler

''The world can be a scary place these days. It all seems quite apocalyptic.
And in fact, the world as we know it is ending.

What could possibly be good about this?

Liberation is only possible when things fall apart. Only when we are completely willing to let go of where we are can we grow into something else. This is just as true for us as a society as it is for each of us, personally.

So here are 5 reasons why this falling apart is actually a doorway to possibility… if we choose to act in that way. For every challenge, there is an invitation.

1. Stock markets are crashing, corporations are collapsing. Our economy, built on a house of cards and designed to function on greed, is yielding to something different.

The invitation: The financial crisis is reminding us of the necessity to exchange goods with each other in a system that’s based on trust and relationship. The social phenomenon that is known as the Occupy Movement is all about moving toward a different way of relating to each other and to money.''

My take on this:
Like almost every small business owner in a country that is going bankrupt, hell, like every small business owner in the whole world at the mopment,I am struggling to make ends meet. The dire reality of a mother of 4 trying her best to keep the wolf from the door has taken its toll on me. But instead of giving up or falling into despar mode,I am forced to
a/ become more resourceful and inventive with my business practices
b/ swallow my pride and ask for help from whenever it is available
c/ learn to be a real fighter and never ever quit,in spite of almost insurmountable  difficulties.

''2. Our schools and the whole education system is being battered by a multitude of problems. Test scores and literacy rates are dropping, students face violence both in and outside of the classrooms, teachers are burning out.
The invitation: Real learning is a transformative process that takes place person-to-person and has almost nothing to do with well-designed curriculums, textbooks, and fancy school buildings (though these things are of course helpful). Organizations like the Academy for the Love of Learning and the Montessori Foundation are showing us the way back to the true meaning of “education” — to bring forth what is within (from the Latin word educere).

My take on this:
My kids hate school.Just like I hated school, just like most people I know,in fact. You probably hated school too. Why? Because you and I  and all kids in the world are lazy shirkers incapable of realising what's good for them? I f that's what you think, please reconsider. Kids are innately clever and capable of judging fairly accurately how soul-destructive is the practice of subjecting them to ''one-size-fits-all'' outdated notions of useless hours in school that we call education.

Nobody benefits from it. Except it appeases everyone's sense of 'duty'.Parents feel they've done their duty sending off kids to said schools, teachers go 'blah-blah' for hours to justify their salaries, the politicians feek proud of themselves for funding this meaningless day-care fascility and kids tolerate several hours or extreme boredom and/or soul-crushing humiliatuon a day, waiting patiently until it's time to be finally released from their prison,to go home and complete their own education-the only real education there is- via the Internet, their interactions with  friends or via other afterschool classes that are more to their liking.

All schooling should be homeschooling. Exept homeschooling is illegal in my country for my kids because they have no special disabilities. So they have to go through with it. There is something I can do though: instead of going with the stupid system that created this,I try my best to instil a sense of distrust for it and teach them the value of self-education. Sometimes just seeding an idea is enough. No laborious tending to it needed. If the soil is rich,it will eventual grow and bloom and bear fruit. I hope.

''3. Technology is exploding faster than our consciousness can keep up with it. Our lives our speeding up, and for some of us, our connection to our computers has become more important than to the real people in our lives.
The invitation: There is a growing movement toward simplicity and a desire to find ways to use technology in service of the greater good. The annual Wisdom 2.0 conference is a wonderful example of how people are practicing and creating more mindful ways to use technology in our lives. Writers like Sandra Pawula offer excellent guidance on overcoming digital overwhelm.''

My take on this:
There is nothing wrong with technology. It is just a tool. And all tools need a crafty handiman. I'm trying to provide my kids -and me,because I'm still learning and I will continue to do so until I die- with all those necessary tools. But at the same times I'm trying to teach them-and me- the value of being a good, conscientious handyman that can use those tools to create their own mastwerpiece. Whatever 'masterpiece' might mean to each one of us individually.

''4. The very nature of work is changing. The unemployment rate in the U.S. continues to soar, and millions of people are struggling to find conventional jobs with decent pay. The days when people stayed with the same company for years have come to an end, most likely to never return.
The invitation: We can create innovative approaches to work. We don’t have to depend on someone else to hire us, we can draw on our own talents and passions to create livelihood that matters and that sustains us.''

My take on this:
''Arbeit Macht Frei=Work gives Freedom''. That's wise words, right? Well, they were written on the main gate of Auschwitz, one of the biggest Nazi concentration camps in Germany... It was the very first thing that all prisoners couuld see upon entering the camp...You do know how free they got once they started working there, don't you?The morale here: Work gives you freedom only and if it is not used in the hands of the establishment to enslave you...How can you crfate more freedom for you regarding the work you do?If you feel like you are the equivalent of a prisoner in a concentration trap, don't you think it's time for you to escape before it's too late for you?

''5. Our environment is polluted, our climate is on the verge of spinning dangerously out of balance.'
The invitation: We are being invited to live on the planet in kinder and simpler ways. More people are coming forward to give examples of how to do this in creative and bold ways.''

My take on this:
This is  plain b@llshit . ALL PLAIN PROPAGANDA.Stop buying into it.

''The bottom line in all this: Cooperation and Community lead to sustainability and  gentleness… greed and ignorance lead to destruction and harm.
Liberation is at our fingertips, if we choose it.
The world is offering us a chance to take responsibility, to be creative. This also requires us to be willing to let go of old habits and step courageously into new ways of living and relating to each other. What we thought of as “security” is actually not what will keep us truly safe.
How will we choose? How do you choose? And what invitations to transform our way of living are you taking full advantage of these days?''

My take on this:
We are living in great times! It's true! We;re standing on the verge of something big,ral real big! Can't you feel it? But in order for us to experience and take part it,we have to get rid of the shacles of fear and dependence that keep us tied down to the dire physical reality the whole world is experiencing at the moment....Let's declare our freedom from fear! It's a decision first and foremost, a decision renewed each and every day we go on living on this beautiful planet. Let's go on chosing Love!

What job to do next

This is an excerpt from my Internet hero Penelope Trunk and her fantastic post about learning:

''When people talk about their job, they are really talking about their learning. When we say, "What do you do?" we really mean what do you learn? Because that's what makes a person interesting – what they are learning. No one wants to answer the question what do you do if they have a job where they  are not learning. That's how you know it's the learning that matters.

We all love to learn and we love to watch it. We just have to find our best spot to do it. If you don't know what job you should do next, ask yourself what you'd like to learn next. And if you don't know that, ask yourself how you feel most comfortable learning.''

10 Unconventional Ways to Keep Going

"To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to."

"Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will."

10 Unconventional Ways to Keep Going

1. Remember how you proved wrong those people that insisted you couldn't do it in the first place.

 2. Ask yourself, "What would I rather be doing?" Then go do that other thing for a while, until you feel OK again.

3. List 10 reasons why you CAN't keep going. Then imagine you were given a big prize to prove the opposite and list 10 things why you can keep going. Make sure to put that in writing.

4. Give yourself permission to quit.  Sounds crazy, but it works.  When you set up an internal law that says, "I can't quit." Or "I shouldn't quit", it makes the desire to quit even stronger.

5. Give yourself a need to continue.  Pick a random one from the above list of 10 nreasons why you can keep going and imagine this is the most important thing you'll concentrate on for the next 10 days.

6. Stop focusing on the struggle and start focusing on the solution. Ask yourself right now:''What's the solution to my struggle?'' Write down the very-very-very first thing that comes into your mind.

7. Take a hard look at your methodology. What's your main strategy up till now? Found it? Good,no go do something totally difference. Give it a try for at least a week. Are there any better results now?

8. Make a contract with yourself.  State in it not that you are committed to win or never give up, Just state in there,in bold letters that NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS YOU'LL STILL GO ON FEELING OK ABOUT IT!

10. Walk away. Go do nothing. Relax and just be. Sometimes looking at something too hard or long obscures the solutions.  It's the "can't see the forest for the trees" phenomenon.  By simply walking away or taking a break from the struggle to solve, you often free your mind to see new options and opportunities.

9. Get real.  If you can't keep going, quit going. Life was never meant to be a struggle. If something becomes too much of a struggle, then quit doing it,no matter how important ,necessary or whatever it is. Who says life is onnly about achievements?Life is just to be lived and enjoyes,Web People out there! Have creative fun leaving it,even if  you become,by other people's standards,a ''failure''. As long as you enjoy life, you are always a high achiever!

Wrap yourself in joy!

Whether it's good morning, good afternoon, or good night, make sure to always wrap yourself tightly in joy and happiness! Having joy in your life replaces all doubt with faith, all fear with enthusiasm, and all hurt with love. Joy is a good word for today. May you be filled to the brim with more joy than you ever imagined possible. Wrap yourself in joy, wallow in joy, and enJOY every moment of this beautiful day.

“One joy shatters a hundred griefs.”
--Chinese Proverbs

So today, try to think of yourself as a child who is learning to walk; you need encouragement. Begin affirming positive messages about yourself to yourself. Treat yourself gently and with respect. You deserve it!

Trust your kids more

"You can't teach anybody anything. All you can do is to help them find that it is already within themselves." - Galileo Galilei

My second son John ( seen here being creative with a projector that he connected to a Wii) has just won an iPad

It was a prize in a national competition called ''Show them!'' In this competition teenagers were supposed to describe in a fun, creative way how they taught their parents or other grown-ups computer and I Internet litteracy and how said grown-ups messed things up. My son made the best of it by telling them how he was the one to open my blog account ( true) and teach me stuff about running my blog (true),how I went on to become a blogger with 4000 clicks a month within a relatively short time(true again) and how I still don't know a thing about basic conputer stuff and how I made a laughable mistake(not true,I swear)! If you can speak Greek you can see his entry here. It's called  '' the PC froze'' (το pc freezαρε).

The morale of the story( other than 'always brag about your kids' ,you mean?):

-Give your kids unlimited access to Internet!

If you choose trust instead of control, they'll never disappoint you!

-Let your kids make fun of you!

They might end up winning an iPad this way!
